Common questions and tips from our work with Vaughn customers.
- How do I know my truck brakes need work?
- Watch for squealing or grinding, a pedal that feels soft or sinks, pulling to one side, or a shake in the wheel when you stop. Trucks that tow or haul heavy loads wear pads and rotors faster. A brake inspection checks pad thickness, rotor condition, brake lines and fluid, so you know what needs replacing now and what can wait.
- Why does my truck run hot when towing?
- Towing makes the engine and transmission work harder and produce more heat. Low coolant, a weak water pump, a clogged radiator, a failing thermostat or a bad fan clutch can all leave the cooling system unable to keep up. Running hot can damage head gaskets and transmissions, so pull over safely and get it checked instead of pushing on.
- Can a leaking sunroof be fixed?
- Usually, yes. Most sunroof leaks come from clogged drain tubes, worn seals or a track that is out of adjustment, not from the glass itself. Water stains on the headliner, a wet floor or a musty smell are common signs. Clearing the drains and replacing worn seals often solves it, and catching it early prevents damage to the headliner and wiring.
Tip
Service your transmission if you tow
Towing and hauling heat up transmission fluid, and hot fluid breaks down faster. If you pull a trailer or carry heavy loads, follow the severe service schedule in your owner's manual for fluid and filter changes. Dark or burnt-smelling fluid, slipping or harsh shifts are signs to get it looked at before a small problem turns into a rebuild.
