Common questions and tips from our work with Vaughn customers.
- Why do my trailer lights keep going out?
- Most trailer light problems come from a bad ground, a corroded plug or broken wiring. Gravel roads, water and road salt all work on connections over time. A loose ground can make lights flicker or work only some of the time. Checking the plug on the truck and the trailer, the ground wire and the wiring along the frame usually finds the fault.
- What causes a hydraulic leak on a machine?
- Hydraulic leaks usually come from worn or cracked hoses, loose fittings, or seals wearing out in a cylinder or pump. Heat, age and rubbing against the frame all weaken hoses. Watch for wet spots, dripping fluid, slow or weak movement, or a low fluid level. Fixing a small leak early protects the pump and keeps dirt out of the system.
- What should I tell the shop about my trailer or machine?
- Share the make and model if you know it, what it is used for, and what it is doing wrong: lights out, brakes dragging, a hitch that will not latch, a leak, or a machine that will not start. Photos help too. Those details make it easier to tell whether the repair fits the shop and plan time for the work.
Tip
Check your trailer before every season
Before a busy hauling season, walk around your trailer. Test every light with the truck hooked up, look at tires for cracks and wear, check the hitch, safety chains and breakaway cable, and look for rust or cracks on the frame. Spin the wheels and listen for rough bearings. A few minutes of checking can head off a breakdown on the road.
